STARRING :
Prabhas, Trisha, Mohan Babu, Sanjana and others RELEASE DATE : May 22nd 2008
Average Puri Jagannath uses the tried and tested formula of three songs and six fights in his attempt to present Prabhas as an out and out mass action hero. Prabhas gives a good account of himself and so does Trisha. The two together with their performance turn the film into an enjoyable fare. Story: The young Bujjigadu (Prabhas) and Chitti (Trisha) are neighbors and also close friends. Chitti gets angry with Bujji over a trivial issue and tells him that she will not talk to him for 12 years. Bujji knows that he cannot stop talking to her if he sees her everyday. So he runs away from home in Visakhapatnam to Chennai for 12 years In Chennai, he grows up into a die hard fan of superstar Rajnikanth. He comes back after 12 years in search of his love, Chitti. But Chitti’s parents leave Visakhapatnam soon after Bujji runs away from home and their whereabouts are not known. Meanwhile Bujji comes into contact with the sons of Kota Srinivasa Rao, a dreaded mafia leader. They are after the life of Sivanna, a rival mafia leader. They tempt Bujji with one crore for killing Sivanna. Bujji takes up the offer and comes to Hyderabad in search of his target, Sivanna and also in search of bujji, who he learns is now in Hyderabad. Bujji follows Sivanna with a plan to kill him but he himself is seriously injured in the hands of Sivanna’s gangsters. But Sivanna takes a linking for Bujji and takes him to his home for treatment.
Sivanna
is none other than Chitti’s brother. Sivanna also learns that Bujji is
the same person his sister has been waiting for all these 12 years. The rest of the story is whether Bujji and Chitti finally reunite, and if so, how? Performance: Prabhas as a dashing young man comes across in a very effective and convincing manner. He also gives a good performance both as a comic hero and also a dreaded fighter. Prabhas also performs some difficult dance steps in a song and sets his fans roaring in approval. Trisha is as usual at her charming best. She comes up with another impressive performance. Mohan Babu plays the dreaded gangster Sivanna. But his role is a mix of a hardcore criminal and also a loving and caring brother. He does a good job but his role has been completely overshadowed by Prabhas. Sanjana plays the good natured younger sister of Trisha. Her role is not very big and she does her job as per the requirements of her role. Kota, Ajay, Subbaraju, Raja Ravindra, Ahuthi Prasad, MS Narayana and others give adequate support. The comedy scenes between Prabhas and Trisha bring in much laughter among the audience. However, the comedy between Sunil and Ali is a bit clichéd and does not click. Puri Jagannath, perhaps to ensure that Prabhas gets a pucca mass image, has given him a fight too many. Prabhas however does a good job in all the fight scenes. The fight scene in thunder lightning, between Prabhas and Sivanna’s gangsters is the best in the film. Sandeep Chowta’s music is quite okay and a couple of songs are set to some real fast beats. There is also the usual mandatory item song – Mumaith Khan shaking a leg with Prabhas. The first half of the film is quite racy. The second half runs a bit slow and there are far too many fights and this tests the patience of the audience to a considerable extent. Even the climax is a bit too lengthy. On the whole, the film is jus a time pass film. Not too great and not too bad either. However, Prabhas can finally heave a sigh of relief as the film is a definite plus in his career. But ‘Bujjigadu made in Chennai’ it is definitely not among the best films by Puri Jagannath. |
