'Everaina Epudaina' Review: A Let Down

Film: Evaraina Eppudaina Rating: 2.75/5 Banner: AVM Productions Cast: Varun Sandesh, Vimala Raman, Giri Babu, Reshmi, Rahul, Anu Haasan, Ali, Venu Madhav, Rama Prabha, Kota, Surekha Vani, Brahmanandam (guest appearance) etc Music: Mani Sharma Cinematography: Venugopalan Editing: Marthand K Venkatesh Director: Marthand K Shankar Producers: M Saravanan, M S Guhan, Aparna Guhan, Aruna Guhan Release date: 26th June 2009 Love can happen at anytime and any place. How convincingly was this told in this movie, let us see.  Story Venkat (Varun) is a happy go lucky guy who is not responsible about anything but then his life takes a turn when he sees Madhumita (Vimala) and falls in love with her at first sight. From then on, he starts hatching plans to win her heart and finally he does. However, in this process, he does a small mistake which leads to a great confusion and problem and Madhu leaves him without giving any chance to explain. Whether he manages to win her heart and what changes he undergoes in this process forms the rest of the story. Performances Hero: Varun Sandesh: The confidence of bagging two hits with the starting of career is seen in him. He carried the entire movie on his shoulders and shown enough of energy levels. He needs to work on his body quotient. He may look better with some grooming and adding on some muscle. He has improved his dialogue delivery which was thick in his earlier movies. Heroine: Vimala Raman: She is like a sheer poetry. Her beauty is marvelous and enthralling. She looked seductive and sensuous and she has performed to her role. She suits best beside big heroes than lean guys like Varun Sandesh. An inch loss in her body would certainly pinch the hearts of youngsters and teenagers as well. Her smile is also captivating and personality is enchanting. Others: Giri Babu was regular, Rama Prabha and Sakuntala were okay, Reshmi looked good, Rahul was alright, Ali was normal, Venu managed few light moments, Anu Haasan did her bit with standard, the others like Surekha Vani, Rahul were brief. Technical Crew: The dialogues were okay, the script was a bit random but the screenplay was suitable to it. Music was a let down and barring one or two songs, nothing much can be said. Cinematography was average, editing was neat, costumes and art department did their bit to prove their presence.  Highlight Scenes:  The scene at the TV showroom where Varun’s brother gives him money Varun’s bold approach to shoulder the entire film Varun’s way of making children sleep Disappointment The rain song was cut down which proved to be a disappointment for many young audiences Analysis The film tried to attempt to be a light hearted romantic entertainer but then the comedy track has been quite weak. Even the plot as such is outdated and it was not long before the viewers could predict what was coming next. The entire first half has been devoted to a stale comedy of the grannies at the hospital and it must be said that the flavor was lost due to it. This is a romantic treat but the touch of romance and its feel was not in sufficient doses. The second half also was a bit mixed with up with inconsequent scenes and forced songs. However, the technical values and the production values of the film are good and this has elevated the film a bit. Due credit goes to the makers for entrusting the hero with the large responsibility of going through the entire movie. There is no special part for the mass audience and the family audience might like it in parts. The pace of the film has been consistent but unwanted songs during the second half hampered the momentum. Overall, this is a film that is technically neat and good in few points but the agility in keeping the audiences attached to screen is missing especially in second half that marred the final result. Bottom Line: Not up to expectations

'Current' Review: Fluctuating Voltage

Film: Current Rating: 2.75/5 Banner: Sri Nag Corporation Cast: Sushanth, Sneha Ullal, Charanraj, Tanikella, Sudha, Geetha, Brahmanandam, Vennela Kishore, Shafi, Raghu Babu etc. Music: Devi Sri Prasad Cinematography: Vijay C Kumar Editing: Marthand K Venkatesh Fights: Kanal Kannan Director: Surya Pratap Producers: Chintalapudi Srinivasa Rao, Naga Suseela Release date: 19th June 2009 Sushanth has come up with his new venture ‘Current’ and how much voltage he has been able to generate with the audience and also with Sneha Ullal, let us see. Story Sushanth (Sushanth) is a happy go lucky who believes in the present and does not care about the future. He falls in love at first sight with Sneha (Sneha) and from then on chases her. Sneha falls in love with him but her father (Charanraj) is not too confident about Sushanth given his carefree and irresponsible nature. Sushanth does not listen when Sneha tries to explain the same. So she asks Sushanth to take away the love that he has created in her heart. What happens from there forms the rest of the story. Hoe he takes that away and what happens in climax forms the Current!!!! Performances Sushanth has improved in his dance and body language but he still needs to work on his expressions. Hardly he is able to give 4-5 expressions and he seems to be over conscious about his mouth. He should come out from that to give the best. Sneha Ullal gave her glamorous presence and though she has those blank expressions at times, she still looks cute and sensuous. Tanikella was ok in his role, Charanraj was underutilized, Vennela Kishore managed few laughs, Brahmanandam was abrupt, Reshmi looked a stunner and she has shown good potential, Raghu Babu was impressive, Shafi was alright and the others did not have much to contribute. The dialogues were weak, the script was alright and the screenplay was acceptable. Background score was okay and two songs are worth taking home. Other tunes of Devi Sri Prasad seem to be taken from his old stock tunes. They are insipid and pale. Cinematography was up to standard and editing was crisp. The production values of the film were of high scale and the costumes and art department did a neat job. Analysis  The film comes across with a concept on love but then it is the narrative that kind of got complicated in conveying it. Apparently, there is a lack of continuity in the scenes and though the second half had few moments of intensity, the feel has been missing. Comedy could have worked really better had the makers focused a bit. Brahmanandam came with a good entry but his exit was unknown and dull. Raghu Babu and Shafi managed good comedy but that was not worked for long. Lack of strength in dialogues and not very high caliber music from Devi Sri also were some key elements. However, the youth audience will go through a roller coaster ride of emotions and if only the makers looked at working on pulling the chords like ‘Tholi Prema’ ‘Ullasanga Utsahanga’ then it would have been a runaway hit. First half is dull and second half gripped some emotions but the run couldnt pull crowds on to screen.

'Raju Maharaju' Review: Sentiment And Revenge Drama

Film: Raju Maharaju Rating: 2.75/5 Cast: Sharwanand, Surveen Chawla, Tashu Koushik, Mohan Babu, Ramya Krishna, Brahmanandam, Sunil, Dharmavarapu, LB Sri Ram, Rani, Jayasudha (guest role), Raghu Babu, Jayaprakash Reddy, Nutan Prasad etc Dialogues: Jeevana Satyam Choreography: Nobel, Tarun, Prem Rakshit etc Fights: Kanal Kannan Editing: Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao Cinematography:  Ramesh Babu Music: Chakri Producer: Kuamara Swamy Paththikonda Story, Screenplay, Direction: Durga Shankarnath Release Date: 18th June 2009 Sharwanand starring ‘Raju Maharaju’ has arrived today. Let us see how far the flick entertained the audiences. Story: Kalyan (Sharwanand) is an arrogant for being the younger brother of a damn rich business magnate Chakravarthy (Mohan Babu). He wanders aimlessly and plunges into all sorts of pleasures along with his spoiled friends. He is so selfish that he wants only pleasures for himself and never bothers about other’s lives. Sneha (Surveen) a girl happens to encounter this vagabond. Kalyan loves her but the latter denies him knowing his character and public behavior. He becomes love-sick and becomes dipsomaniac. Noticing that Kalyan’s elder sister in law Ramya (Ramya Krishna), the wife of Chakravarthy, requests Sneha to act as if she is friendly with Kalyan for 10 days so that she would set things with a new girl meanwhile. Only on humanitarian grounds, Sneha agrees for that. But she loses soft corner on Kalyan when he commits a road accident and kills a person just in front of her and never bothers about him. Who is the person killed in road accident? The real story starts from then. How Sneha plays with Kalyan’s adamant nature and keeps him in his control? That forms rest of the story. Performances: Sharwanand is at his best in this film. He is showing lot of maturity and improvement in his performance from film to film. The best point in him is his voice and dialogue delivery. He is good with dances as well. His appearance in different get ups for a few songs shown him different and proved better choice for young mass hero roles. Surveen Chawla was given a role that has very good scope for performance. She is ok with expressions and needs to work on lip sync and required momentum with dialogue. Tashu Koushik is just for glamour quotient in the film and she has nothing big to play. She pleased the senses of a set of audiences with her hot appeal in a couple of songs. Mohan Babu is majestic as usual with his role. Ramya Krishna also looked beautiful and pleasing on screen. Jayasudha’s appearance in guest role happens in climax. Comedy track between Brahmanandam as Om Raj and Sunil brings some laughs. The main predicament with this film is the presentation. Comedy should be slapstick for this sort of films. Story line is ok but the exercise should be better to bring it to the entertainment limits of audiences. Dialogues are also not up to the mark leaving just one or two exceptions. The best part is picturization of songs and Sharwanand’s performance. Production values are really good and every small trivial role was played by established artistes. Dialogues: Mohan Babu: “Naa Meeda Cheyyi vesthey okka kshanam aalochistaanu. Naa vaalla meeda cheyyi vesthe okka khsnam kooda aalochinchanu” Mohan Babu: “Puttedi aado-mago telusukovaalante 9 maasaalu wait cheyyali. Aa puutina vaadu prayojakudu avuthodo ledo, asalu vaadi lkashyam emito choodalante paathikellu wait cheyyali. Anukunna lakshyam neravaruchukovadaaniki kondaru jeevitha kaalam wait cheyalsi vasthundi” (as an answer to Sharwanand who expresses his disgust in waiting) Analysis: First half of the film goes insipid till the interval twist. Comedy could have saved that part if worked well. Second half is heavy with sentimental dose. The hard ships faced by lead role to prove his sincerity and love are shown in the best way possible in this part. Heroine appears like a villain in this part who takes revenge on lead in every aspect. The movie ran by leaning on the shoulders of Sharwanand in this part. He carried that dexterously. There are no films with sentimental dose in recent times. This may fill that gap. But how far the majority audiences get connected to this family sentiment has to be wait and seen. This may appeal for B,C center audiences if publicity goes stronger. The title is obsolete and has got no crowd pulling energy. Only the star value on posters with Mohan Babu and Ramya Krishna should pull a set of crowds. Sharwanand’s performance should carry good word of mouth publicity. The plight of the movie depends on those factors.

'Boni' Review: Weak And Lethargic Narration

Film: Boni Rating: 2.25/5 Cast: Sumanth, Krithi, Trinetrudu, Tanikella, Jayaprakash Reddy, Ahuti Prasad, Chandramohan, Babloo, Velu, Satyaprakash, Sudha, Surekha Vani etc Music: Ramana Gogula Cinematography: Andrew Director: Raj Pippala Producer: Ramana Gogula Release date: 12 June 2009 It has been a while since Sumanth has not been to score a hit in his career but this time, he has come up with another rather interesting title. Yet again in a mass entertainer, let us see if Sumanth scored success in this or not. Story D D (Sumanth) and Chinna (Trinethrudu) are childhood friends and they grow up to be recovery agents and goons. They have a long ambition of setting up a Pulihora Centre and for this they need money. So they join the mafia don Giri (Tanikella) and he gets them to Das (Jayaprakash Reddy) another evil don. Meanwhile, a sequence of events happens and DD kidnaps Pragati (Krithi), daughter of Minister Prasad Reddy (Ahuti Prasad). However, Pragathi is happy she got kidnapped but there is a small twist which she and DD realize at a later stage. What is that twist and how DD comes out of it forms the rest of the story? Why Pragathi is happy for kidnap? That forms rest of the story. Performances Sumanth has come up with a mild performance and though his is a mass role, he still has a classy look which is a contradiction. He lacked in those energies that a mass hero should possess. Somehow he proved once again that his body language suits only for class roles but not mass ones. Krithi looked gorgeous and at ease in front of the camera, she has traces of Jayaprada in few shots. Trinetrudu provided few lighter moments, Tanikella was effective, Jayaprakash Reddy was regular, Ahuti Prasad had a brief presence. Chandramohan was alright, Babloo was just average, the others did not have much to contribute. The dialogues were regular, script was written but there was no depth, screenplay was adequate, both background score and two songs were credible and worth listening, cinematography is above average, and the art and costume department did a good job. Keeping the artistic bent and creativity in titles and picturing songs, entire movie proves to be heavy for audiences with weak narration. Analysis The film takes off on a rather mild note and it must be said that the chemistry was missing on the screen. The technical values are very high but the content and the narration needed lot of energy. Sumanth needs to focus more on doing classy and urban roles since his attempts to get into the mass category are not up to satisfaction. While the first half goes about in a regular fashion, there are few sequences in the second half that keeps the audience busy but yet again, the feeling was missing on the screen. The film is more for the multiplex audience though it has a mass backdrop and the makers should have worked more on the comedy. The trigger of romance is something that is missing a great deal although Harshavardhan could attempt well. The film might pass off as a technically well made and some fairly decent songs but as such success would be difficult for this.

'Na Style Veru' Review: Not Exciting

Film: Naa Style Veru Rating: 2.25/5 Banner: Dishira Productions Cast: Rajasekhar, Bhumika, Ahuti Prasad, Ali, Devaraj, Vijay Kumar, Venu Madhav, Kireeth, Chalapathi Rao, Banerjee, Annapurna, Brahmanandam, Jeeva etc Music: Anoop Rubens Cinematography: S Arun Kumar Director: G Ram Prasad Producer: Maganti Gopinath Release date: 12/06/2009 Angry man Rajasekhar who has been seen in family roles and cop roles recently wanted to try something different with this movie. He also paired up with the glowing beauty Bhumika so let us see how different his style has been this time. Story Sivaram (Rajasekhar) is a drunkard who hates his family and there is a flashback reason for that. His life takes a turn when he gets an unexpected call from Parvati (Bhumika). Her life is in danger as there is someone in her family who wants to kill her for her property. Sivaram manages to get hold of Parvathi and brings her home. They wait for the arrival of her father (Vijaykumar) from US and in the meantime, few incidents happen and some of them get killed. Finally, Sivaram decides to get rid of the bottle and solve the mystery and at the same time, protect Parvathi from the killer. How does he do that forms the rest of the story.  Performances Rajasekhar has come up with a regular performance and his fitness levels are good. Since this is not a regular angry role, it was a different facet of his acting. Bhumika is glowing as usual and looked really seductive in sarees and songs. Brahmanandam failed to impress, Ali was okay, Venu Madhav was stale, Ahuti Prasad was ineffective, Devaraj did not have anything, Vijaykumar did justice to his presence, Jeeva was average, Keerath looked really beautiful though very brief, she has potential for glamour, Chalapathi Rao, Banerjee, Annapurna and others were standard. The dialogues were just regular and the background score was totally disconnected and disgusting, one song was okay, cinematography was neat and showed its presence during songs, costumes and art department did a good job, editing could have been better. Weak Points: No exciting factors in story line Predictable suspense Much publicized yellow car has no big role to play Weak comedy line Analysis The film takes the lead from the English movie ‘Celluloid’ that released more than a decade ago. Later on, it gets into the regular Indian style and it must be said that at no point was it able to appeal to the audience. While the first half just passed off, the second half was wasted in unwanted comedy and the climax was over descriptive to resolve the mystery. It was too lengthy and the film would have done better if the comedy aspect was focused and the length be altered since it is meant to be a thriller of sorts. There is not much momentum which can engage the audience and it cannot be attributed to the mass or class as such. Though there is an element of suspense involved and few twists to it, these were not good enough to keep the curiosity alive. The presentation was okay but the narrative of the plot was weak. The film might just pass off if there is some word of mouth attached to it in a positive manner otherwise it will be joining the list of regular duds.
